The Bugout Bag

Well, the truck is due in one week, and we’re not anywhere near ready. On days like today, it seems like what we need is a good fire to clean out all the clutter that has accumulated over the past 20 years—-at least it would make room for the clutter we’re going to collect over the next 20 years…..

Seriously, though, it’s motivated me to give serious consideration to the de-cluttering/thinning down process. If we needed to evacuate today, there are only about 2 boxes of “things” that I’d need to take in addition to the basic bugout gear. A few important papers, the photo albums, my computer’s hard drive, etc.

So why do I have all this other stuff that isn’t so important? And why am I so attached to it that I’m going to haul it 1600 miles across mountains and deserts during the hottest time of the year?

Too much navel-gazing! Time for a nap…..
